My son talks to himself and says he hears voices.

My son was doing good then all of a sudden, he changed. A couple of years ago my son started walking around talking to himself. He fights with his brothers and claims to hear voices but he doesn’t want to get help. The police have to come to my house often. How do I get help for him?

Your son may be suffering from a major mental illness and he should be seen by a psychiatrist.  It is not a choice.  He must be seen.  Speak to your family doctor and arrange an appointment with the mental health services. If you absolutely can’t get him to go, you should go and detail the symptoms to the doctor.   Early intervention in major mental health problems can result in a real change in his behaviour and prevent very serious mental health problems.
