My ten-year-old son was accepted into a day hospital mental health program. His grandparents are making it hard for people to understand that this is the best option for him. How do we explain to our family that what we are doing is right and not have them tell everyone we have done this because we think he is bad? My son is special and he is not bad but as parents we need help with him and he needs help to understand himself.
Why not see if you can invite his grandparents to the next family session at the day hospital program. They can learn about his problems and his progress.
Explain that you and the doctors at the hospital agree that he has problems that can be treated. You are seeking the best possible treatment for him and are confident that he will make good progress.
