How do I get my five-year-old to sleep in her own bed?

First of all, you have to make it a clear expectation. Second, you can set up a reward system. Every time she stays in her own bed, you give her a reward. Activity rewards are the best. A special time with mom would be great. Celebrate each success.

These steps alone will not be enough. The third step is that every time she leaves her bed, you return her to her bed, firmly but kindly.

Do not argue with her, just say “You are a big girl and you have to sleep in your own bed.”
She may cry and say she is scared. Just repeat that she is a big girl and she has to sleep in her own bed.

This may take a dozen or more times each night at first.  It may take two weeks of consistent effort.

If you are consistent, she will learn that her bed is for sleeping.
